Do people even bother trying to teach English these days?

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Loose and lose are totally different words.

Learn contractions, and I don’t mean the cervical spasms your truckerspawn generates.

I’m not saying everyone should be a master of the language, but the basics are so… basic.

Take this terror for example. For the benefit of those who look after that craigslist ad is gone, here are the highlights-

IT professional (South Subarbs)

Desktop support, maintaing and servicing several servers…

There is no way this didn’t light up the ol’ spellchecker buddy, and if you’re the go to guy for placing ads I don’t want to imagine the rest of the people that work there.

Sheesh.

Showers on the road

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

If you’re ever desperate to take a shower while away from anything resembling home, you may have considered those that you can rent from some truck stops. Recently this is something I’ve done, so allow me to suggest you re-think this.

It wasn’t bad, it was actually a very nice private bathroom, providing towels and soap. It was, however, ten freaking dollars, and didn’t even include shampoo. For the price you might think about just splurging the extra 25 to 35 bucks and rent a room someplace.

I mean wow. $10 for like a nickel of water and 15 mintes of time.

Captain Trips

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

My advice? Don’t drive 1400 miles in two days if you can help it.

Anyway. Three very interesting items from my trip.

1) Some rest stops now have wi-fi. Bizarre, cool, and kind of frivolous.

2) I can’t tell you how insane the sign was that advertised this.

3) Passing through Hope, AZ, there’s a sign which should read “You’re Now Beyond Hope”. However, and I truly hope I imagined it, the sign said Your.

Anyway. Tired, maybe dying.
