Geovision GV800, video capture card

Aaron’s parents own a couple of Subways, and they have a camera system in both. Recently, after a power outage, one of the camera computers started acting funny. Roughly every 4 minutes, the software for the capture card restarts itself.

So, I try reinstalling the software, cleaning up the machine, and so on. Next, I try it in a different machine, and voila, same problem. So, the card is likely fried somehow, but I contact their tech support, just to check.

Here’s part of the email I got back from them today.

PC Spec

Dear Sir,

Thank you for submitting to GeoVision Technical Support.

The Dell PC you have here is Dell 2400, which might not be compatible with GeoVision capture cards.

If possible, please try one of pc spec or non-Dell pc as an attachments. Sorry for the inconvenience.

*** GeoVision have an incompatible issue with motherboards, which have nVidia 590SLI/6100/6150 chipsets.

*** GeoVision capture cards are not compatible with some of Dell Dimension PC.

*** In addition, GeoVision product isn’t compatible with VIA or ATI motherboards.

How do you make something that has trouble with nVidia chipsets, ATI chipsets, AND VIA chipsets? The best part is that this particular Dell is an Intel chipset, which they seem to think is a problem.

So… they support SOME Intel chipsets. In any case, the card has ran in this box for at least a year and a half that I know of, so that isn’t it.

Still, as a product and a company this thing is fail.

  1. Aaron Says:

Also recall that I specifically purchased an ATI motherboard for the other camera box, as when I contacted them then, they said only VIA chipsets were unsupported, and ATI would be fine.
